The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) filed a notice in the Federal Register, seeking applications for membership to the Academic Research Council. The bureau’s Office of Research has the responsibility of researching, analyzing and reporting on topics that are related to the bureau’s mission.
The CFPB established the Academic Research Council as a technical advisory board that provides the Office of Research with guidance. The council is comprised of scholars. To be qualified, a candidate is expected to be a tenured academic with a world class research and publishing background and a record of public or academic service. The bureau is seeking experts who are recognized for their professional achievements and objectivity in economics, statistics, psychology or behavioral science. In particular, the agency wants academics with strong methodological and technical expertise in structural or reduced form econometrics, modeling of consumer decision-making, behavioral economics, experimental economics, program evaluation, psychology and financial choice.
The council is composed of no more than eight members, and there are currently two vacancies. Appointments are generally for two years.
Those interested must send an application packet to the bureau by Feb. 11. A packet includes a resume and a completed application. Electronic submissions should be sent to [email protected].
The bureau plans to announce the selection of new members in March.
