The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) announced the publication of Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) Modified Loan Application Register (LAR) data for 2024, as required by federal statute.
The newly released data is available via the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council’s HMDA platform for approximately 4,898 HMDA filers, according to a CFPB press release. The data includes loan-level information filed by financial institutions and modified to protect consumer privacy.
In accordance with the 2015 HMDA rule, the bureau makes the annual loan-level LAR data for each HMDA filer available online to increase public accessibility. Previously, users could obtain LAR data only by making requests to specific institutions for their annual data.
In addition to institution-specific modified LAR files, users can download one combined file that contains all institutions’ modified LAR data.
For background on HMDA requirements and technical tips for understanding and analyzing the data, HMDA users may access the CFPB’s “Beginner’s Guide to Accessing and Using HMDA Data.”
